The COVID-19 pandemic and the Russia–Ukraine war have reminded the world of the vulnerabilities in global supply chains and the renewed importance of manufacturing. Amid these shifts, innovation in manufacturing and the securing of technological sovereignty have emerged as essential tasks for preserving national economic stability and competitiveness.

The Korea–Germany Technology Leadership Forum, co-hosted by the Institute for Future Strategy at Seoul National University and the Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research (Fraunhofer ISI), will provide an in-depth platform for discussing the innovation challenges facing the manufacturing sectors of both countries and ways to strengthen technological sovereignty. The forum will examine not only the strategic significance of Industry 4.0—symbolic of the digital transformation of manufacturing—but also the pivotal role of technological sovereignty in maintaining and enhancing national competitiveness. It will be a valuable opportunity to analyze shared challenges and explore practical avenues for cooperation.

On the first day of this two-day event, participants will discuss “Industry 4.0 and the Transformation of Manufacturing: Current Trends and Future Prospects in Korea and Germany.” The sessions will focus on the direction of manufacturing in the era of digital innovation and strategies to bolster national competitiveness. By sharing successful cases of Industry 4.0 implementation and the insights gained from them, the forum aims to help shape the future of manufacturing through Korea–Germany cooperation.

The second day will focus on “Technological Sovereignty,” exploring concrete strategies to strengthen technological independence and global competitiveness. As technological sovereignty has become a core asset for national economies and industrial development, experts from both countries will analyze its economic and political implications and discuss forward-looking strategies.

The Korea–Germany Technology Leadership Forum will serve as a meaningful venue for exploring how digital transformation in manufacturing and strengthened technological sovereignty can lead future national competitiveness. We are pleased to invite you to join us for this important event and share in new visions and insights.
