  • The inaugural SBS Grand Quest, co-hosted by SBS, the Institute for Future Strategy at Seoul National University, and the SBS Culture Foundation, highlighted the critical importance of securing technological sovereignty amid the U.S.–China tech rivalry.

  • Minister Yoo Sang-Im (Science and ICT) identified AI, semiconductors, advanced biotechnology, and quantum technology as the three major game-changing technologies, outlining a national strategy to mobilize resources for securing tech sovereignty [01:11:19].

  • Chairman Chey Tae-Won (KCCI) defined “Grand Quest” as bold questions posed to problems without ready-made answers, stressing the need for joint participation by industry and academia to build an innovative ecosystem [01:13:30].

  • Professor Lee Jeong-Dong (SNU) argued that the only way for Korea to overcome its multifaceted industrial crisis is through “challenging questions (Grand Quests)” and scale-up strategies that lead to securing irreplaceable, original technologies [01:28:20].

  • SBS presented five key policy recommendations for securing technological sovereignty:

    1. Establish a pan-ministerial control tower and appoint a Deputy Prime Minister for Future Innovation

    2. Launch the “Brain Home Korea Project” to prevent talent drain

    3. Build a data-driven, integrated R&D management system

    4. Strengthen technological competitiveness in strategic manufacturing industries

    5. Advance the “Manufacturing Plus AI” initiative to integrate AI into manufacturing [01:37:10]
