Policy advisory service for enhancing the future competitiveness of nuclear energy
Research contents
1. 20 years have passed since KHNP was restructured and established as a subsidiary of KEPCO, which is mainly engaged in nuclear power generation.
2. KHNP's business has been focused on the development, construction, and operation of nuclear power plants, and it is also promoting renewable energy projects in accordance with the decarbonization strategy for global carbon neutrality.
3. However, despite these environmental changes, the governance of the nuclear power industry, including KHNP, has remained the same as it was 30-40 years ago, around 1980-1990, with the same role division system to efficiently promote nuclear power technology independence.
4. This study is the first study on the governance of nuclear power plants since the 2000s, and suggests the need for change in governance, the direction of change, and the way to reorganize it, while the specific procedures and methods of governance change will be promoted as a strategy to be derived through further research or projects.
5. In addition, we propose strategic measures to strengthen the competitiveness of nuclear power plant exports and promote new growth businesses.
6. Governance Step-by-Step Implementation Plan
- Phase 1 (Main Study): Presenting the basic framework of policy measures including governance
- Phase 2 (follow-up and supplement): Designing detailed governance procedures and measures
- Phase 3 (Implementation): Establishment of implementation roadmap and implementation
