Korea Electric Power Corporation

Topic

Establishment of KEPCO's medium-to-long-term response strategy

Research contents

1. Identify key issues in the energy and power sector at home and abroad
Through systematic analysis of domestic and international energy and power sector reports and academic literature, we identify research trends and key issues surrounding the power industry, including energy transition, grid stability, power system decentralization, grid security, EV charging infrastructure, and electricity demand growth.

2. Analyze changes in the external environment that may affect the energy and power industry from a mid- to long-term perspective
◦Identify factors that have a significant impact on the energy and power industry among the huge trends (megatrends) of future environmental change, such as demographic change due to low birthrate and aging, AI technology adoption and digital transformation, intensification of metropolitan area concentration, climate change, and global carbon neutrality.
Apply analytical methodologies to evaluate the core drivers of megatrends (economic, technological, population, social, etc.) and analyze their mutual influence and patterns to identify opportunities and risks for KEPCO

3. analyze the path and ripple effects of the impact of major external environmental changes (social, political, legal, economic, technological, climate, etc.) on key issues in the energy and power industry
◦Identify major challenges in the energy and power industry through detailed forecasts of future industry changes in the form of a multifaceted integrated matrix, and prepare preemptive response measures

4. Present mid- to long-term strategies to enhance KEPCO's sustainability amidst changing trends and desirable change directions of the energy and power industry from various angles
◦Predict future scenarios of the energy and power industry that may occur due to external environmental changes, and identify KEPCO's core challenges (potential opportunities and threats, etc.)
◦Present mid- to long-term strategies for the above core issues that comprehensively consider global national competitiveness from a national perspective, the direction of the power industry, and KEPCO's sustainability.
