“The Impact of Changing Global Conflict Dynamics on the Nuclear power Industry”

Nuclear power, which offers advantages in terms of economic efficiency, stability, technological sophistication, and environmental sustainability, has been gaining renewed attention as rising electricity demand underscores its importance. South Korea maintains strong competitiveness in the global nuclear market thanks to its accumulated technological expertise and outstanding construction capabilities. However, several issues must be addressed to further enhance the sustainable competitiveness of the nuclear industry, including the limitations of securing an independent nuclear fuel supply and the challenges of managing spent nuclear fuel.

Accordingly, this issue brief explores strategies to overcome these limitations in order to strengthen South Korea’s energy security and international competitiveness, within the context of shifting global dynamics such as the United States–China power rivalry and instability in the Middle East.
