“Future Development Strategies for Agriculture and Rural Communities in Response to Megatrends”

This issue brief provides an in-depth analysis of the major megatrends facing Korea’s agriculture and rural communities, and the strategies needed to respond. Six megatrends—climate change, the global food crisis, economic integration, the Fourth Industrial Revolution, population decline, and changing quality of life—are identified as key factors shaping the sustainability of Korea’s agriculture and rural areas.

The brief carefully analyses the threats and opportunities brought about by these domestic and international changes, and proposes strategic directions such as strengthening food security in response to the climate crisis, reinforcing food security amid global economic integration, fostering agricultural innovation through advanced technologies, and creating sustainable rural spaces and development pathways.

It is expected that this issue brief will serve as a useful resource for research and policymaking aimed at ensuring the sustainable development of Korea’s agriculture and rural communities.
