“Building Bonds Through Team sports: Enhancing Adolescents’ Social Development”
Adolescence is a critical period that significantly influences overall personal growth and the development of social and emotional competencies. However, due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the recent increase in media usage time, adolescents’ participation in various physical activities—especially group sports that foster solidarity, belonging, cohesion, and teamwork—has declined.
Accordingly, this issue brief quantitatively examined the impact of group sports on adolescents’ social development, and, by applying Cultural dimensions theory to explain cross-national differences in social development that cannot be accounted for by group sports alone, proposed strategies to build educational and cultural systems that support the social development of adolescents.
Keywords: adolescents, social and emotional competencies, group sports, social development, cultural dimensions theory, education and cultural policy
